Seen from everywhere

These show up in a few other photos, but not quite so in your face.

The randomness of being me

Looking out a Tim Hortons window toward the ferry dock. Lots going on there while it's being shared with the crews putting up the wind turbines on Wolfe Island.

I like this look.

Yanno, I could see me designing clothes if I had taken arts, not sciences.

Long, winded

Shot last Saturday, on a sunny, windy and cold day.

Today we had some sunshine, after the snow stopped. It had moderated enough that my coat was open and my touque was left in the truck for a few hours. It was otherwise a semi miserable day, due to greasy roads, slush and water right where I had to walk, and generally heavy traffic, due to it being cheque day for everyone who gets their cheque either at the end of the month or the beginning of the next month. The grocery stores were very busy.

Keds don't need shoe polish

But this one needs a mate, eh?

One has to wonder: how does one lose a shoe, and what the hell is with wearing shoes like that in winter?

This former store is on the corner of a street that is not quite straight. It has been hit on its opposite wall several times. Finally the city installed a stop sign on an island to at least slow folks down :-)

I am so ready for winter to be over. We might get another blast tonight/tomorrow via snow squalls. Oh, goodie.

All chained up and no place to go

These will likely be sold to another No Frills, I would imagine the new one will already have shiny new buggies.

We are expecting 6-8" of snow today. It should make being downtown interesting tomorrow. Ah well, 31 days til March.

Won't be beat

Years and years ago, this used to be Bennett's Foods. Thursdays were paydays for my dad, and he would drive home from Kingston to our little house in Hartington, and drive back to town so my mom could do the grocery shopping. She did the bulk of her food shopping in this store.

For a while in the late 70s and early 80s, the three of us drivers would stop here first before driving our routes. There was a snack bar at one end, and we would join a couple of guys from the beer store and other assorted time wasters for a coffee. This store was one of my deliveries for a long time, even after it was bought out by Loblaws and became a No Frills.

Eventually the store changed hands a few times and no longer carried mags. The last owner built a big, new store, but it is over two miles away, and I no longer have a grocery store within a twelve minute walk, except for the most expensive A&P in North America (now owned by Metro, but just as expensive).

I never realized that I had so many connections to this store...

God in your corner, or 8 ball in the corner pocket?

These two "establishments" are maybe 150 feet apart. There are more to this series, taken in a five block or so strip.

It was another frosty day, -23°C/-9°F when I went to work. I sure am sick of winter.

Megan. Sorry, I tricked you. There's no boobage in this shot...

I have sat on my ass all day. Breakfast wasn't served until about noon, and I have spent the day catching up reading here. Tyler is waiting for his mom to pick him up in about an hour and a half. Pretty boring day overall, even more boring is this entry. Have a great Monday, folks.

Fingers and spoons and telephone calls

Tyler wouldn't stop doing that until I took his picture.

In a split second, an ordinary spoon was transformed by Vanessa into a jet of metallic snot.

I have not been very dilligent lately in my reading, and my comment replies have not been as timely. I have been spending many hours talking to someone on the phone. She is someone I have known for a while, but for various reasons we didn't make a connection until a couple of weeks ago. She makes me very happy, and I make her happy, too. This is very exciting for both of us.

Shiny boobage

Can't tell if her friends have shiny boobage.

Although I don't live with soon to be ex-Wifey, I do pay the car insurance, giving me the opportunity to be listed as a second driver. I needed to do some shopping, and instead of getting out of bed to ride to work with her when she dropped off Tyler, I stayed warm, instead. That meant that I had to walk to the hospital, get the key and pay $5.50 to get the car out of the parking garage (it's only $3.00 if you leave the car until the attendant goes home). I noticed that the tank was at about 1/8th, so I put $10 worth of gas in it. All to pick up a few groceries. I could have paid busfare both ways for Tyler and I for $9. Sigh.

However, I can go look for photo ops before the Toucan, and we have a ride down, possibly back.

Men without hats

The men have left, but, um, the hats are here, so, wherever the men are, they must be men without hats. Or, at least without those hats. Never mind. Only aficionados of weird Canadian bands will get the joke anyway ;-)

Man at "work".

Working on my portrait skills, maybe.

I edited out the mouse cursor, a couple of icons and the manufacturer's name. I sent it to someone I like very much who asked for a photo of me.

Older than I, and about as useful.

It was a nice enough day that Tyler and I walked downtown so I could get a few photos. We had a late lunch at Tim Hortons, I bought a drain board for my dish rack, and we walked back to my place. I will have those photos posted at some point. I am not as manic about posting anymore, so you will just have to wait. For now, some pics of this old truck that is still in use for plowing the parking lot at a transmission place, and is likely used for pushing disabled cars into the shop as well.

I couldn't get a good shot of the interior unless I stood on the back. I never thought of that until now.

A break from serious photography :-)

The woods part of my walk home. I pass by a huge bakery on the way to the street, hence the Wonder Bread trailer in the background.

The "backyard" where I work.

Work was busy today. Not stressful, I just had lots to keep me going. I finally get my proper day off tomorrow. I hate working three and four days in a row. I may have mentioned that before :-)

It's not yellow paint. It's yellow paint.

The yellow in this is actually fading sunlight. I turned the car around to get this.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Yep, that's yellow paint... I need to go back and reshoot this one. It's unacceptably blurry.

Windows, street and Beta versions

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tyler and I had an absolute blast tonight at the Toucan. There was about 14 of us, with lots of carrying on, picture taking and good, unclean fun. I will have pics to put up later, I haven't even looked at them yet.

I have been playing with Windows 7 Beta and IE 8. There are a few issues to work through, but I like it better than the Vista Beta I used last year.

The temps here have moderated somewhat. It's now -13°C/9°F. Practically spring like.

The tree was not interesting...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

More cold weather tomorrow, but I'm on the move a lot more, so it won't be as bad, and I can likely keep the truck running more often. We have an anti-idling bylaw here, but if a cop bothers me, I'll be watching to see if he shuts down his car while he writes the ticket :-)

Dumpster goblin, shit happens

Another day, another -25°C/-13°F. I froze my fingers while tossing bundles onto a skid at Costco this morning. It took a bit before I could feel anything, and then they hurt. The problem with the job in very cold weather is that it is hard to accomplish much with nice, warm mitts. They haven't a grip good enough to handle bundles or a pen, so I would be without protection most of the time. My cheap cotton gloves only work till around a few degrees below freezing.

The day went slow, and I was at least an hour behind. But, I finished, skipped sorting any of tomorrow's invoices and went home. I just finished a nice pork loin and baked potato supper, and feel warm and full :-)

The photos for which this post was named :-)

We can break the Police!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Maybe, but we can't break the weather. My fingers and toes went through a number of freeze/thaw cycles today. If not for sunshine, my truck would have had almost no heat at all. The morning temp here was -25°C/-13°F. After ten hours going from almost being warm to almost being frozen, I then walked a mile home, but the temp had warmed up to -18°C/0°F by then :-)
